Nabwire Damalie’s Story
Hello- my name is Athieno Nabwire Damalie. I am 19 years old and I am an alumni of Buiga Sunrise School. I was brought to stay with my grandmother (Mum Betty) when I was two years old and when I started schooling she took me to Sunrise. I was totally green with no experience - I didn't know how to write, read or express myself. I did not interact with other children and I would stay alone even during play time. All of this became my story as soon as I started schooling from Sunrise, where I met teachers who were like parents to me.
Kirabo Gloria Nicole ~ Our Little Miracle
On the 2nd of January 2018 our lives changed in the most unexpected way. We found a little baby girl abandoned, helpless and barely a month old. We didn’t know her story, or who her parents were. All we knew was that this tiny child needed love, care and a future. From that day on she became part of our family - our beloved sister, a very special gift.
Nakalema Irene’s Story
My name is Nakalema Irene and I am making 20 years in June. I still remember those sunny days at Buiga Sunrise Primary School. My journey started there, up until now, as I pursue a certificate in Pharmacy. I was a curious and ambitious young student - eager to learn. I was encouraged by my teachers and my guardian as I learned to make charcoal briquettes from agricultural waste, and menstrual pads in the girls empowerment group. I was smart and a quick learner, my teachers motivated me to pursue my interests and nurtured a love for mathematics and science where I performed very well, especially when I graduated to secondary school. This helped to lay a foundation for my future career goals.
Mwebe Anthony’s Story
Hello, my name is Mwebe Anthony - a graduate from Buiga Sunrise primary school. I started schooling from Sunrise in 2013. My parents brought me to live with my aunt when I was 8 years of age. This is when I started my primary level in grade one. It was my first time to join a unique school, indeed it was my first time to see white people haha (muzungu in my language). I wondered and told my aunt that I usually see them in movies - wow it was a surprise to me. The teachers where like my friends - they were kind and nurturing, and they helped me develop essential skills like reading, writing and counting.

Nakabuya Jovia’s Story
Hello, my name is Nakabuya Jovia. I am a graduate from Buiga Sunrise School and am doing my last year in medical school as an Enrolled Midwife.
I joined Buiga Sunrise preschool in 2007 when I was just 2 years old. Later in primary school my mom couldn't afford to support me to continue with my studies - this was really a hard time for me because I wanted to become a great nurse so I could help save people's lives and change my family status.
Midwife Harriet’s Story
When I go back to my roots of being a teenager, whenever I had my holidays in my home village, I would always love visiting health centers , simply because I wanted to compare how my grandmother performed home birth. She always delivered with kindness to the mothers and good work. I noticed that the mothers always preferred her services to that of the hospital. Seeing this from her I got inspired to be trained in a modern way, by going to a nursing school.

My story is deeply intertwined with Buiga Sunrise School, a school that truly changed my life. I joined Sunrise in 2017, at the age of 13, entering Grade 6 (Primary Six). Before that, I had spent a full year at home, unable to attend my previous school due to financial hardships faced by my mother….
