Nakalema Irene’s Story

My name is Nakalema Irene and I am making 20 years in June. I still remember those sunny days at Buiga Sunrise Primary School. My journey started there, up until now, as I pursue a certificate in Pharmacy. I was a curious and ambitious young student - eager to learn. I was encouraged by my teachers and my guardian as I learned to make charcoal briquettes from agricultural waste, and menstrual pads in the girls empowerment group. I was smart and a quick learner, my teachers motivated me to pursue my interests and nurtured a love for mathematics and science where I performed very well, especially when I graduated to secondary school. This helped to lay a foundation for my future career goals. I worked hard and my dedication paid off when I excelled in my exams. After completing my secondary school, I decided to join a pharmacy institute. This was driven by my desire to help people and make a difference in the community.

Pharmacy school is a challenging yet rewarding experience. I am fascinated by the intricacies of human pharmacology and the importance of medication management. Through rigorous academic programs, clinical rotations and research projects, I am gaining a deep understanding of pharmaceutical science, which is helping cure and manage diseases . I am also learning good communication skills, counselling and team work. It will be a moment of pride and fulfillment when I achieve my childhood dream and graduate as a qualified pharmacist. During my time in pharmacy school I’ve had the privilege of working with health care professionals and community members. I have experienced first hard the positive attitude of the people I  work with, and my work experience has allowed me to see the impact we are making in the lives of people with chronic conditions, whom we serve.

Looking back on my journey, I am filled with gratitude for the guardians, teachers, sponsors and mentors from Buiga Sunrise Primary school. I have been fortunate to be provided with those good opportunities, which have shaped me up to today. I am proud of my accomplishment and I pray to be a positive change to the people in the word after my course is completed next year. I thank God for this long journey and Sunrise primary school for shaping me up and the sponsors who paid my school fees up to now. May God bless you all.
