Grace Family Health Centre

Status

After a period of closure and restructuring, Grace Family Health Centre will reopen on October 16, 2026, bringing essential healthcare back to Banda Kyandaaza and surrounding rural communities.

The reopening marks an exciting new chapter for the clinic—one built on local leadership, strong partnerships and long-term sustainability. Under the leadership of Buiga Sunrise CBO and Sunrise alumna and certified midwife Nakabuya Jovia, Grace Family Health Centre is bringing together a growing network of Ugandan healthcare organizations and community partners. Collaborations with Rotary Clubs in Kampala, Malaria Partners International, Oral Health Uganda, the eye department of Old Kampala Hospital, and government health services will help the clinic offer a broader range of care while connecting patients with specialized services when needed.

Renovations are already underway to prepare the clinic for reopening, including improvements to the buildings, medical equipment, water and solar systems, patient facilities and access road. Once reopened, Grace Family Health Centre will provide maternal and child healthcare, immunizations, malaria testing and treatment, HIV services, family planning and reproductive healthcare, alongside community outreach and access to dental and eye care through partner organizations.

Our vision is not simply to reopen a clinic, but to create a strong, locally led centre for community health—one that brings organizations together, shares resources and ensures that quality healthcare is within reach for families who might otherwise go without.

Community Need

For families living in Banda Kyandaaza and the surrounding rural communities, accessing even basic healthcare can be difficult. Grace Family Health Centre serves a catchment area of approximately 15,000 people, many of whom face long distances, transportation costs and financial barriers when seeking medical care. These challenges can mean delaying treatment for preventable illnesses, missing routine immunizations, or women giving birth without timely access to skilled care.

Solution

For thousands of people living in Banda Kyandaaza and surrounding rural communities, the greatest barrier to healthcare is often simply access. Distance to larger health facilities, transportation costs and the cost of private care can turn routine health needs into serious problems.

Grace Family Health Centre helps close this gap by bringing essential healthcare directly into the community as a locally based first point of care. Patients who require more specialized care can be connected to hospitals and partner organizations through a growing referral network.

By providing prevention, early diagnosis and treatment close to home, Grace Family Health Centre helps reduce the need for costly travel, encourages people to seek care before conditions become more serious, and strengthens the overall health of the community. The goal is simple: essential healthcare should be available when people need it, regardless of where they live or what they can afford.

Services & Activities

Grace Family Health Centre uses a mixed-fee model to ensure essential healthcare remains accessible while supporting the clinic’s long-term sustainability.

  • Free Services: Maternal care, childhood immunizations, HIV testing and counselling, family planning services and general consultations are provided free of charge, removing financial barriers to essential and preventative care.

  • Affordable Fee-Based Services: Ultrasounds, laboratory testing and medications are available at reduced community rates, below those typically charged by private, for-profit providers. Medications are quality-assured and offered at more affordable prices than private pharmacies.

Revenue from fee-based services helps support the clinic’s day-to-day operations while allowing essential healthcare to remain available to everyone, regardless of ability to pay.
