July 2025 Interns, Sports Competitions and a Unique Fundraiser
Welcome to our new friends Sergio and Eshika!
Sunrise School welcomed two interns for the months of July and August - Sergio and Eshika are Master of Public Health students from the University of Alabama. An internship experience at Sunrise provides them with an opportunity to enhance their skills, practice cultural competence and diversify their knowledge through hands-on applications.
Sergio and Eshika have been busy doing oral health education and reproductive health empowerment. Their activities were at Sunrise School, community outreaches, outlying schools and a neighboring healthcare facility. Oral health checkups and female empowerment sessions were also given to Sunrise students and the community at large. We appreciate the partnership - it has brought a new experience in defining dental care, and our girls have boosted their self esteem and increased their personal awareness.
Interschool Sports Day Competitions!
Sunrise teams were not only good in football, but were also the smartest dressed team among all the competitors.
Here is the under 12 team taking a moment with the school nurse to pose for a photo and celebrate their first win.
After 2 years without appearing at the interschool sports competitions, the Sunrise girls’ netball team made a powerful statement by winning all the games in their age league. Our two best girls were also selected to join the regional team for country-wide competitions!
These spectators found the best seats around - they couldn’t miss watching the Sunrise team in action!
